Alexander’s Movement Journey

My name is Alexander and I have been in teaching movement for over a decade. I started journeying into the world of health and wellness as a 20 year old after watching an infomercial on the new hot workout of the time “Insanity.” I decided for the first time then that I wanted to get into proper shape and start taking care of my health and wellness. My best friend and I decided to start training in the back room of my apartment and we pushed ourselves to the limit. I ended up in the best cardiovascular health in my life and decided I wanted to become a Beachbody Coach and start training others to help them achieve their fitness goals.

From that point I took on P90X and all its variants and whilst I was jumping into the realm of weight lifting chose to find a Yoga studio to study mobility and make sure I was balancing out the strength training with mobility training. I began practicing Ashtanga Yoga and learned from one of the few teachers that had been certified to teach by Pattabhi Jois. In 2013 I took my first RYT 200 hour teacher training and got certified to begin teaching classes. The training was spread over 8 months and was packed with learning opportunities and the chance to apprentice under my teacher. This was also the place where I truly found my voice as a coach and teacher.

It was at this point that I set new goals for myself and found another movement community. I started training partner acrobatics in the Acro Yoga community and expanded my understanding of movement by practicing and studying gymnastic strength and calisthenics. I became a certified Acro teacher in 2014 with Acro Love (at that time Acro Revolution). Along side this journey I maintained my Ashtanga practice and had added 20lbs of muscle to my frame utilizing Beachbody’s Body Beast program. At this point I felt I had everything I needed to help people rediscover joy in movement. It was here I decided to take over the yoga studio I taught at named LIFE in 2016.

2017 was a massive year of change. Working through the 2nd Series in Ashtanga, I majorly injured my lumbar spine while coming out of a backbend. It was here that my path shifted. I remembered a training modality that I had utilized to help heal my shoulders named Functional Patterns. I bought their 10 Week Online Course and within the first few weeks found that my back pain subsided and other aches that I had been writing off had also quieted down. I was hooked & thus began the journey learning about the optimization of human movement and the blueprint nature has provided for us. I have taken my certifications all the way up to Human Biomechanics Specialist Level 4 which I completed in March of 2024.

After getting my initial certification with Functional Patterns in 2017 I decided to sell LIFE Yoga to another studio, begin taking on clients as a Functional Patterns practitioner and teach what I had used to heal myself to aid others in their fitness and wellness pursuits. Throughout the 7 years I studied FP I also completed courses in Zen Meditation with “Zen & Mind” and courses with Dr. Joe Dispenza at his Advanced retreats to further my meditation practice while letting go of my yoga asana practice (asana being the exercise portion many are familiar with).

I am a lifelong student and continue to study movement practices that I find will help push us closer to Pain Free living and training. There is always so much to learn and bringing consistently better information to my clients and community is my goal.
